FAB AND FIFTY

Well, tomorrow we start on a journey that will finish on our 50th birthday on July 2oth 2010.

We want to lose 50 lbs-0 about 23kgs.

Its not just about the weight though - its about being fit and healthy enough to enjoy the rest of our life in some comfort.

We know that the huffing and puffing we do when we even look at stairs is not a good sign. And we dont feel so good anymore. The blood pressure is creeping up.

We have two big problems - we love food, and we don't like exercising much vices we share will millions around the globe- We especially hate exercising in gyms, the idea of a group groan session in the gym is our kind of hell so we are going to look at different ways to increase our heart rate.

Food is going to be a toughy as well. We love food and we are big consumers of savoury stuff. Salt is our enemy. We know that - and its going to be our biggest challenge to keep the weight down.

And while we dont drink daily, in fact three to four times a week is about it -however we can be persuaded to drink quite a bit in a sitting. So thats going to get sorted as well.

Things in our favour are - we lost 20kgs about 5 years ago and it took us from January to May and we really enjoyed being fitter. It has taken three years for us to get back to where we started so the decline has been gradual.

On top of everything - we are going through menopause, so thats going to add to the fun.

We have in the past fought with the demons of bulimia as well. They are under control but they live in a cave way out back and when they hear the silent screams of stress in our head - they come out. Luckily they have stayed in their cave for the last 5 years but they are forever lurking.

So come with us on the journey if you will. It will be frank, hopefully funny, enlightening, entertaining and more than anything we hope it works. Join us if you want. Offer advice if you can, and support us if you feel like it.

It will the start of a new chapter for us - a better way of living.

So tomorrow we will reveal our starting point. And we will track our progress for all to see.

Doing this publicly is very brave - good luck.

looking forward to reading about your journey. All too familiar to me - I have lost and gained enough weight over the years to build my own netball team. And menopause is great fun ;0 thank the chemists (or more accurately the mares) for HRT.

Good on you, BB! I could lose a few (or maybe more than a few) pounds myself. I'll be watching - and cheering - you along the way!

Best of luck, BB!

Onya.
We are in similar zone, nudging the half century and with a couple of unwanted stone - along with the caved demons (We reckon most women of our generation secretly have similar). It's harder for our demographic to lose the weight, we spose because the old carcass has had so many decades' practice defending its survival layers of fat. So we will be following your campaign, in hopes of inspiration.

Go for it!. promised myself the same thing but then took ten years to activate a program! So far I've dropped about a third of what's achievable with exercise (walking mainly) and quite subtle changes in diet. Started off with a diabetic approach and now have moved that into a more mainstream, but interesting range of foods. (Ease up on the roasts and takeaways). Even Gordon Ramsey is useful here. Booze is still a factor but, like the food, after a while you can, hopefully, reduce the portions of that as well. Ipod downloads of books are REALLY good for walking without boredom.
Cheers

Best wishes for your challenge BB I look forward to seeing you achieve your goal. It will not be easy ,but then I don`t think it would be you , if it was. Go for it , remember `if ya sleepin ya aint eatin.`

I'd recommend not going too hard on the diets.

I reckon that there's nothing wrong with:
- salt (only a small percentage of the population are sensitive to it - get the test, then stop worrying)
- cheese - just not the whole wheel
- full cream stuff

I'd be cutting back on
- processed carbs (they're really only the filler in the meal anyway - a bit less bread, a bit less pasta, a bit less spuds - who'd miss it?)
- portion size
- junk food
- anything with sugar in it

Pitch in some exercise (I hear sex twice a day is a good option...you need to be on top to get full value), life is good.
